Studies have shown that “individuals with periodontal disease are more likely to have rheumatoid arthritis than those with healthy mouths, and rheumatoid arthritis patients are two times more likely to have periodontal disease.” This hand-in-hand relationship is important to be aware of. While rheumatoid arthritis has other causes that are not always preventable, such as your gender, age and family history, performing proper oral hygiene routines can help decrease your risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis.
