April is National Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Oral cancer cases continue to rise each year. Over 40,000 people will be diagnosed this year alone. When detected early enough, the survival rate from oral cancer is high, which is why it is important to receive thorough screenings and exams to ensure prevention of this disease.
As an oral systemic dentist, Dr. McClatchie is dedicated to protecting the whole body health of her patients. She has partnered with the Joan Bisesi Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology Research to give patients the best care possible. The mission of the Joan Foundation “is to improve lives by raising funds to support head and neck research, education, awareness and survivorship.”
Through her partnership, Dr. McClatchie has access to highly skilled head and neck oncology professionals. She is able to have a suspicious lump or sore in a patients mouth evaluated within 24 hours. If the lump or sore requires an in-person examination, Dr. McClatchie’s patients will be seen at The James Cancer Hospital within 48 hours, while other patients could wait up to 3 months for an appointment.
